It's February already!

Tomorrow it will be February, unbelievable! We have flown through January and now prepare for the last part of winter.
So, firstly, a reminder on events/letters that have gone out recently. Parents evening will take place after half term so please make sure you complete the slip before half term. On that note, half term begins on the 12th of February and awe return on February the 22nd.
Last week I wrote to you about our unofficial 'one-way system' please, those of you who read the blog, please pass this on to others. We do still have some parents who do this so please help inform them of this system.
I have also received some information from our governors meeting last week regarding driving up the small one-way road near to Little People's Nursery. Several residents have complained about this so please avoid driving up the one-way street as it is being watched!
Tomorrow, a small number of children will be carrying on with the language club. A big thank you to Mrs. Turner, Miss Phillips and, of course, Stephanie for giving up their time to carry this club on.
There will be a newsletter out tomorrow. Can I take this opportunity to remind you that this will happen every Monday and you should expect a copy. After half term, we will not be sending the letter home to those who have sent an email address in to try and save on some paper! It is also good at this time to remind you that all letters are available on the school website should you need them. Menus are also placed on the site. Please feel free to write down your child's name and a list of what they would like for their dinner! Do not feel you have to return the menus, although this is preferable. The cook prepares the meals freshly in the morning therefore, numbers are important. To avoid the risk of their not being your child's choice, please make sure you fill out a menu!
Au Revoir for now

Another week gone and a fab one for class 3A and 3B. They all had a fantastic time in Nant BH and we hope to give you an opportunity to view the pictures this week. The children went canoeing, bailing, ropes course, orienteering and walking all in two days. It is no wonder that they were so tired on Wednesday. Another trip tomorrow, this time for class 4. They are off to the Imperial War Museum in Manchester for an in-depth look at life in world war 2. I am fairly sure they will have a great time! Parking arrangements before and after school seem to be taking a wrong turn again (pardon the pun). We have an 'unofficial' one way system in place prior to school and after school. Entry to school is down Ffordd Glyndwr and around the corner to  Ffordd Owen and then exit through St Peter's Park, or by following Ffordd Owen around to the original entry point. This system just helps everybody to get around the school, during busy times, safely. Also, we have had a few examples of being late for school recently. Can I remind you that school begins at 8.55 and therefore I would be grateful if you could ensure that ALL children are in school by that time.
Finally for this week, can I remind you all that we do have an open door policy. My staff and I are happy to chat to you, at mutually convenient times, if you have anything you wish to discuss. We want to make sure you have as positive an experience in supporting your child's education, as we do in providing one.

Week 18.1.16

Good Evening all and the beginning of another week. An exciting week for classes 3A and B as they are off to Nant BH. The children will be leaving about 9.15/30 and then will return on Tuesday about 4.30/5 o'clock. It is a fantastic trio and i am sure that all of the children will be looking forward to it. Keep an eye out on twitter for photos. You can also follow @nwoes as that is the centre's twitter feed. Enjoy!

We had a visit form the bad weather this week swell!. To that end it is probably a good idea to run through the arrangements for closure. You can follow this link http://www.flintshire.gov.uk/en/Resident/Schools/SchoolClosures.aspx that will give you access to the Flintshire website with school closures on. In addition to this site you can see information on the homepage of this website (the scrolling text) and on our twitter feed. We try to make a decision by 8 a:m in the morning, so please keep an eye out on these channels. You can presume the school is open if nothing is visible after 8.15. This extra 15 mins is the time taken by traffic to the website at busy times. As for during the day, many teaching staff live away from Flintshire and this is something that is taken into consideration. Please ensure that you have up to date contact information if we need to close during the day. As stated if we do close during the day, information will appear in the places stated above. The radio (Heart FM) get their information form the county website. It doesn't happen very often so here is hoping we'll get through the winter!

Finally clubs begin this week. Miss Gould is on a Welsh course Monday and Tuesday, however, Mrs Taylor will be taking the board games club. On Wednesday there will be coding club with me and NO cooking club, on Thursday football with Mr Jamil for years 2/3 and drama/music with Mrs Jones/Norbury. We will let the children know who is in which club tomorrow.

See you all tomorrow!

Mr Tennant

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda to you all, Happy New Year. I am glad to see everyone back to school happy and healthy and raring to go for another action packed term.
On Friday last week we gave out some skills grids. This will, hopefully, give you an idea of the topics this tea. We are working on a history based topic 'Now and Then' and comparing periods of history. In Mr Jamil's class it will be World War 2 and the home front, In class 3B we are looking at the Celts, in 3A they will be studying all about the Plague. Miss Gould is looking at cold places in the world and comparing winter Now and Then, with a Frozen theme!! Miss Hamilton will be sending her grid out on Monday.
We have had to change our staff meeting night to a Monday this half term so please be aware clubs will be on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. We will decide this week and send a letter out with the choices. Newsletters will be out on a Monday as usual and please be aware that they will be posted online and e-mailed. If you do not have your e-mail registered then can I urge you to do so in order to reduce our paper usage.
We have welcomed 8 former pupils of Ysgol Maes Edwin. WE hope they will be happy in their new school.
Nw Year and resolutions are needed!!. We will be continuing to work hard on our healthy eating agenda and therefore, once again, appreciate your support in providing a healthy snack for your children. They will be awarded dojo points for this.
Ina ddtion, sadly, there appeared to be very little use of RM Easimaths and reading over the holidays, apart form a regular few. There is a clear link between performance and reading / maths supported at home. Please read regularly with your child(ren) and allow them access to Rm Easi maths for 1 session (15mins) a day. This equates to 25 minutes a night and if done each school night (excluding Friday and Saturday) that is 50 minutes of reading and 1 hour 15 minutes extra of maths! It soon builds up
