Apologies for no blog lat week, thrown by the extra day I think!
By now you will be aware that Mr. Gareth Caughter will be the new headteacher from September, after a very detailed process. My congratulations to him. I have known Mr. Caughter for a while now and am positive that he will want to ensure that Ysgol Owen Jones continues to make improvements.
So a short but busy week last week. We had the 2 maths tests and some spelling tests. Al went well and we will complete the tests on Monday morning with the reading test. Please make sure that the children are in and on time.
On the subject of time, there have been far too many instances of children arriving after the bell recently. I would be grateful if you can ensure that you have your children in school by the bell at 8.55. Lateness causes a number of issues for class teachers and the rest of the class.
We will be sending some attendance letters out this week. I am aware that this is a difficult subject, however, attendance in school is vital. As explained in the letter, a 90% attendance is equivalent to 19 days missed of school. That is not good for either school or the children. Please support us in ensuring that your child attends school as much as possible.
This week we will be continuing on the topic 'Staying Alive'. Each class are looking at the body but different parts. As stated in my last blog, any parents or other people who could help with the topic in any way, then please let us know. We have had an x-ray and also a child who is going to tell us all about his heart, so any more will be greatly received.
We also are planning on opening school for parents to watch how we teach and to discuss books in class with he children, so please keep an eye out for that.
Finally for tonight, a reminder to put June 8th in your diaries for our self-evaluation task. The more the merrier! The self-evaluation can be found on the school website, so please have a read before you arrive.
See you tomorrow
PS Please put some sun-cream on the children, lots like a hot one tomorrow
